Fundraiser set for M.V. mom fighting brain cancer | metzger, family ...

MISSION VIEJO ? Friends and family of resident Heather Metzger will gather not long after the sun comes up a week from Saturday to flip pancakes and auction off dozens of items to raise money for the newly diagnosed cancer patient.

Following a family camping trip last month, Metzger became ill, according to friend Stacy Guy. After trips to three doctors, Metzger, a Capistrano Valley High graduate, was sent to Mission Hospital, where she was diagnosed with a brain tumor April 19.

A fundraiser will be held on June 9 for Heather Metzger. Metzger, pictured with her family, was recently diagnosed with cancer.

Four days later, surgeons removed 96 percent of the tumor, and recommended chemotherapy and radiation to remove the remainder, Guy wrote in an email.

Metzger and her family also are facing a financial struggle because her husband didn't have a job and the family was without insurance at the time of the diagnosis. That's where Guy and other friends stepped in, deciding to hold a series of fundraisers for the Metzger family to help pay existing medical bills and avoid delaying ongoing treatment.

One of those fundraisers is June 9 at The Church of Christ on Marguerite Parkway. Pancakes will be served 7-11 a.m., local singer Anesha Rose will perform and a silent auction and raffle will feature tickets to baseball games, two-night getaways and other items.

Breakfast is $5 for adults, $4 for children. A kids craft event is $1 per child. All donations go to the Healing Heather Metzger Trust Fund. Search for Healing Heather Metzger on Facebook to find out more.
