The Africa Investment and Business Leader Awards 2012, took place during the World Bank Annual Meetings in Tokyo, Japan, organised by Africa Investor, one of Africa?s leading international investment and communications group.
These prestigious Awards are the longest-standing international awards on Africa to reward exceptional business practices, economic achievements and investments across Africa. They recognise the institutions and individuals improving the continent?s investment climate.
Award winners included a number of high-profile personalities, who were recognised for their achievements. Africa?s Innovation Leader of the Year was awarded to James Mwangi, CEO of Equity Bank, while Phuti Mahanyele, CEO of Shanduka, was recognised as Leading Africa Woman in Business of the Year. African Business Leader of the Year was presented to Brian Molefe, CEO of Transnet, and Jay Ireland, President and CEO of GE Africa, was awarded International Business Leader of the Year.
Commenting on the Awards, Hubert Danso, Chief Executive Officer and Vice Chairman Africa investor, said; ?In this complex and competitive global investment and information environment, it?s critical that Africa writes its own investment story. The achievements of the nominees, and winners of the 2012 Ai Investment and Business Leader Awards, play an important role in that process and assist domestic and international investors in identifying partners to participate in Africa?s growth story.?
Institutions recognised included; National Empowerment Fund for the Best Initiative in Support of SMEs and the Millennium Development Goals; Phatisa was recognised for Investment Climate Initiative of the Year; Bank of the Year was awarded to Kenya Commercial Bank, and Carbon Finance Initiative of the Year was given to Nedbank.
Emerging Capital Partners was awarded the Venture Capital/Private Equity Deal of the Year Award; Employer and Human Capital Investor of the Year went to SABMiller; Institutional Investor of the Year was awarded to Botswana Public Officers Pension Fund, and Investment Promotion Agency of the Year was given to Board of Investment Mauritius.
