FELDMAN WINS FIRST NEWGA

Karen Feldman shot 78-79 and thought she won her first Northeastern Women?s Golf Association Championship. But upon further review, her better ball partner Pat Mayne survived a 12 on a par-5 on the first day to come back and tie. On the first hole of the sudden death playoff, Feldman knocked in a six-foot birdie putt to best Mayne, who made par.

?I knew I had to make it because I figured she was going to make hers because she?s so good on those putts,? Feldman said. ?She never misses them.?

Feldman began Monday?s second round four-over in the first three holes. She played the remaining 14 in two-over par and began the shotgun start on the sixth hole on the Blue nine. They played the Blue and the Red.

?If I play the way I can play than that?s all I can do,? Feldman said. ?And that?s what I did.?

And she said her putting was key, including draining a 30-footer for birdie.

?I hit almost every fairway and 10 greens in regulation and on the fringe in three others?I had some really long putts, a couple to save pars on a couple of holes??wow that was good, I?ll take that.??

Aug. 27-31: SUNBELT SENIOR TOUR AT LAKE PLACID

The 2nd Annual Adirondack Senior Open, part of the Sunbelt Senior Golf Tour, will return to the Whiteface Club and Resort in Lake Placid August 27-31. The Sunbelt Senior Golf Tour, the largest and longest running Senior Tour in the country after the Champions Tour, includes players 45 years of age and older who are honing their skills for the Champions Tour.

The Sunbelt Senior Tour has had the biggest year in its history. Current and past players include over 15 players that qualified for the 2012 U.S. Senior Open and over a dozen that played in the 2012 Senior British Open.

Defending Adirondack Senior Open Champion Javier Sanchez will be challenged by five-time PGA Tour winner Danny Edwards. Sanchez was among the players to compete at the U.S. Senior Open last month at Indianwood Golf and Country Club in Michigan. Edwards will lead the free junior golf clinic on Aug. 27 at 5 PM. The clinic is open to everyone.

Barry Lane, a two-time Sunbelt winner this season, finished in a third place tie at the Senior British Open with Dick Mast. Both pocketed over $100,000. Mast, also a winner on the Sunbelt Senior Tour in 2011, finished top 20 at the U.S. Senior Open. Sunbelt players are playing some great golf, promising a strong field in Lake Placid in just a few short weeks.

The host Whiteface Club and Resort, partly owned by the Mirror Lake Inn Resort and Spa, is one of the top-rated public tracks in the state, according to Golfweek Magazine. It has also hosted the New York State Senior Women?s Amateur Championship.

The tournament will again benefit the Adirondack Carousel and Community Center in Saranac Lake. This not-for-profit project is creating a multi-purpose facility to educate, entertain and support families in the Tri-Lakes region.

Located at William Morris Park, the Carousel is located on Bloomingdale Avenue, next to the train depot that helps link Lake Placid and Saranac Lake. It features a new playground, community rooms and custom-carved animals native to the Adirondack region.

The pro-am is Tuesday, Aug. 28. The professionals will continue to play through Friday, Aug. 31, in a 54-hole professional championship. The public is welcome to come out and watch all the action free of charge. For sponsor or pro-am participation information please contact Tom Eubank directly at tom@charityproamtour.com, or call 404-944-9988. You can also contact Marge and Ted Glowa from the ADK Carousel at tedglowa@aol.com and get more information on the charity or your participation in the event.
