U.S. debt sinking Social Security

People who agree with James Cook?s view need to realize that this country is broke. Last year, the Federal Reserve bought up over 75 percent of the US Treasury debt being sold by the government, with US dollars.

Obama is supposedly the boss of Ben Bernanke (by reappointment of a Bush nominee) and Timothy Geitner, Treasury Secretary. If he or his party were so great for the little man, why does he allow wholesale theft, through inflation, to continue at an accelerated pace?

I?ll tell you why, because both parties are being controlled by the banking cartel through the Federal Reserve. That?s why both of our local representatives, Republicans, in Congress voted for that outrageous budget last year. Remember Obama threatening everyone?s S.S. check? The big banks make a fortune trading on the Treasury market, just as they do in war time, hence the ?open-ended? Afghan conflict.

Personally, I?ve known for 25 years that Social Security and Medicare are ponzi schemes and have saved accordingly. I have never had any expectation of living to collect S.S. or Medicare. Don?t come begging to us ?honest savers? when the government doesn?t provide you with a decent handout, due to the inflation they created. Hint, all ?hard assets? are good inflation fighters.

Also, I?ve noticed every time I see such a ridiculous letter, like from Cook, it?s nearly always an out of towner. This makes me suspect he?s a Democrat hack, just like I see on Sean Hannity?s show, when I tune in there.

Sensible facts on ward vote

I am writing to express my appreciation to Elizabeth Glynn for her very informative letter in the HDR on Aug. 16. She did such a great job of just laying out the truth, the facts, in a very sensible, easy to read and understand way. Thank goodness we have some very intelligent people who are willing to take the time to share with us. Thanks so much, Elizabeth.

And while we are on the subject of politics, I would like to say that I really enjoyed the front page splash about the local people who will be attending the Republican National Convention. Now, my question is - where is the front page splash for those locals attending the Democratic Convention - maybe there is some favoritism going on here. I will be watching for the Democratic announcement on your front page very soon, you think?

CBO isn?t nonpartisan

The recent letter regarding the Congressional Budget Office wherein the writer and the HDR stated and suggested that the CBO is nonpartisan is a description often challenged by both political parties and others. The writer of the letter, a Democrat and former chairman of the Catawba Co. Democrat Party, like many on both sides of political debates supports the statements and conclusions made by the CBO when the government agency seemingly confirms their beliefs and agendas.

The agency is as nonpartisan as Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer?s stance on illegal immigration with her efforts to uphold the law, the current president?s statement implying that there are 57 states as well as his definition of fair, and the USAD?s persecution of Lance Armstrong for years without evidence normally required for conviction.

The CBO, much like most government agencies, is a creation of government and is rather ineffective if we are to examine its purpose and the results. It is supported by and is expensively dependent upon tax dollars for its survival.A recent published list of just a few of the lower salaried CBO employees show none earning less than $90,000 per year, not including benefits. In addition, Mr. Peter Orzag who left the current administration?s post as head of the CBO recently was chosen by the current president to be a big part of his (hardly non-partisan) economic team.

If we are to have confidence in the CBO?s conclusions touted by the letter writer; we should then also have confidence in the following findings of the CBO, all published and on the record:

-?Estimated that Ryan?s plan will cut public debt almost in half as a share of the economy by 2040?

-There will be ?nine percent unemployment by 2013 plus another recession ? (i.e. if current taxes are raised rather than left as they are, will cause another recession)

-?The current administration?s health care plan will spend more, tax more and reduce deficit less than we previously thought?

-The current president?s budget ?could add as much as $3.9 trillion in deficits by 2022?

??Three to five million Americans will be pushed out of their employer provided health insurance each year from 2019 through 2022?

The CBO, like many other government run agencies, needs to be eliminated or re-vamped to truly be nonpartisan. Non-partisanship, as we have seen, may be a goal that is not achievable considering the politics involved.

Romney, Obama not our best choices

As we approach the official battle for the Republican Party to retake the White House, have Conservative Americans once again forfeited their integrity in the selection process?

What appeared to so many, to be a long grueling primary process that supposedly allowed the voices of most conservative and independent minded Americans the opportunity to select the next challenger to the Obama sham was little more than a spectacle, a side show offered by the ?progressive? elite GOP establishment.?

Even an ardent student of the political process would have to admit that the stage production, broad media coverage, showmanship, and even the cast of ?pretender? characters was well scripted for prime time ?sweeps? television.? The perfect stage settings were meticulously selected to ensure that the public eyes focused their attention on the spotlighted ?performer? of the hour; just like a card trickster guides the onlookers attention away from the slide-of-hand to mesmerize the mind of even the astute skeptic.

As the weeks and primaries passed, the ?players? seemed to change their stage placements, choreographed perfectly, as the media ?handlers? and TV crews politely blurred the stage so the audience would enjoy the performance ? and forget the purpose.? At the end of each performance, ?talking heads? provided hours of slanted opinions commentary as to what was just seen and heard. The viewer, therefore, would never be required to listen, take notes, or even be concerned about the ?thoughts? and ideas presented by the candidate.? Once again, we the people let total strangers from a widescreen TV decide for us.

To so many, the American dream consists of living in a society filled with liberties and freedoms for all; opportunities abounding in every part of our great nation; our borders and vital government functions performed and protected by our paid civil servants and dedicated military; and the hope that our children and grandchildren will live a better life than we?but our founders provided and hoped so much more for us.

Freedom and Liberty are not ?free? ? patriots, soldiers, statesmen, and working Americans from every race, faith, and walk of life have fought continuously, even before the birth of America, to ensure that our God given ?rights? are protected.? When we choose indolently to sit idly in front of our TV screens, allowing a few elite politicians, technocrats, pollsters and processors to make our decisions for us, we the people gave up our God-given rights.

Whether we admit it, most Americans did not select Mitt Romney as their first or even second choice to be the Republican candidate for President of the United States.?As the ?producers? and ?directors? of our ?reality? show, called the political process, guided our ?minds? though a maze of calculated directives, we the people gave up our integrity, our dignity, our deep-seeded beliefs, and our faith, in the same manner as Judas did to Jesus; and we didn?t even receive 30 pieces of silver.?We willingly sacrificed Newt Gingrich, Sarah Palin, Michele Bachmann, Herman Cain, Rick Perry & Ron Paul, as well as others on the alter.

It is my most humble opinion that Barack Hussein Obama?s election as President, right next to 911, is the single most devastating event that has affected modern-day America; but for Americans to accept a mediocre, at best, candidate like Romney who does not share our conservative values; does not believe in the ?sanctity? of life of the unborn; does not believe that we are a nation of law and not man; but instead believes that the state and big government is the answer to our health-care and many other issues, is a clear sign that we the people have given up the fight for our God given rights. May God help us all.

Don?t vote yes on Sept. 18.

There will be a most important vote in Hickory on Tuesday, Sept. 18 concerning ward type voting and the citywide type which we now have allowing all citizens of Hickory to vote for all six city council persons.

This citywide method is a fair democratic way and has been used without challenge since 1967 which has provided Hickory with a sold dependable government.

The late Glen Hilton, Ralph Starnes and myself were the first to be elected with the ?new? at large voting system in effect in 1970. People welcomed the liberty provided them to be able to vote for each of the candidates who would decide how and where Hickory was going and how the money would be spent..

Now in 2012, I am being asked to consider rolling back the calendar 45 years and return to the old method of only being allowed to vote for the representative in the ward where I live in effect I am losing 85 percent of my voting rights, being only allowed to vote for one instead of the present six council persons.

I am unwilling to give up this much of my right to select all of Hickory?s decision makers who will set the city tax rate as well as other important issues that regularly come before council.

I invite you to study this issues before the early voting begin at the Highland Recreation Center on Aug. 30. Let?s don?t lose or reduce our right to select all six of our city council persons instead of just one.

Vote no to protect your right to select all of the Hickory City Council.

Coalition poll was misleading

My commentary is in reference to the HDR article on the Backward Coalition poll.

As one of those polled, I can flatly say this was a ?push? poll, a blatant attempt to influence the respondent by both content and tone of the questions.?To infer or imply otherwise, is bull hockey.

Could this be the real reason why the Backward group doesn?t publish the content and results of the poll? Or, is it that they are waiting until the last minute so that no one will be able to call their hand on it??

My guess is both. In the interest of full disclosure, unlike the Backward coalition, I am voting yes in the referendum and I have donated to that cause.
